Reduce the Use: Home
Smart Energy New Homes Program
The Smart Energy New Homes Program encourages builders to become ENERGY STAR
® Partners and build all electric homes which surpass 2006 International Energy Conservation Code requirements.
The Smart Energy New Homes Program features two tiers of energy efficiency standards:
- Smart Energy New Homes
- ENERGY STAR New Homes
Smart Energy New Homes are intended to perform measurably better than code, while ENERGY STAR New Homes standards indicate even greater levels of performance. Each tier offers specific incentives for new single-family and multi-family construction.
For the homeowners, these quality requirements translate into better-built homes that, at the highest tier, feature ENERGY STAR rated appliances, HVAC systems and electric storage water heaters. These features can make your home more efficient and more affordable to operate. In addition, a home identified as energy-efficient differentiates it from others, a distinction that can potentially make the home more attractive to buyers when it's on the market.
